The model uses a catalyst for the challenges, but it is absolutely necessary, or I can for several months without it?

Ashley had a stove, and I took it and worked well. It's just a filter for the smoke as I know.
Yes, you can run without him. It burns a little less effective, but no damage is caused by the stove. Nice stove, by the way!
